Ask AI About Your Screen

Show the AI the email, flyer, form or error you are stuck on instead of describing it: screenshots on a phone, live screen sharing in Gemini, and the desktop shortcuts for Gemini, ChatGPT and Claude, checked October 2026.

On this page

Most of the time you spend with an AI goes into explaining the situation. A screenshot skips that. The AI sees the exact wording, the layout, the error message and the small details you would have left out.

Members use this for a ChabadOne setting they cannot find, a confusing bank or payment screen, a flyer draft they want critiqued, a spreadsheet formula that broke, and a Rashi they want explained in plain words (one shliach turned a screenshot of a Rashi into an infographic in three prompts, July 2026; see the guide).

On a phone

Send a screenshot. Take the screenshot, tap share, and pick ChatGPT, Gemini or Claude. Type your question underneath. You can also open the app, tap the plus, and pick the screenshot from your photos.

Share your screen live (Gemini). Gemini Live can watch your screen while you talk to it, on Android and iPhone, including the free plan (Google made this free for all users in 2025). Start Gemini Live and tap the screen-share button. Everything on the screen is shared, including any app you switch to, so close your messages and banking apps first.

On a laptop

The desktop apps open on top of whatever you are working on. Shortcuts below are the defaults as of October 2026; each app lets you change them in its settings.

Claude (Mac "quick entry")Tap the Option key twice. You can switch it to Option + Space in Settings > General.Drag to select part of the screen, or click a window to attach what is in it.

Only one app can own Alt + Space (or Option + Space). If you install two, change the shortcut in one of them. On Windows, ChatGPT's shortcut is under Settings > App > Companion window hotkey.

Prompts that work on almost anything

Look at this. What are the three changes that would make it clearer for
someone seeing it for the first time? Rank them, then make the first one for me.
This is a screenshot of [ChabadOne / my bank / my email settings]. I want to
[what you are trying to do]. Tell me exactly where to click, one step at a
time, and wait for me to send the next screenshot before you continue.

The second one pairs well with the step-by-step prompt on Master Prompts: you send a new screenshot after each click, so the AI never guesses what you are looking at.

Screenshots and personal agents

Agents that live in WhatsApp or Slack (see Personal AI Agents) can read screenshots you send them. In spring 2026 members of the agent-builders group found that some setups did not pass the image through at first, and that sending many large images in one session hit a size limit. If an agent answers as if it did not see the picture, ask it to describe the image back to you before you trust its answer.

One privacy habit

A screenshot often holds more than you meant to send: other people's names, phone numbers, a donation amount in the next column, the chat list down the side. Crop before you share. On the free plans your chats may be used to train the models unless you turn that off; the settings paths are on Privacy and Data.
