Suno

AI song generation from lyrics, a style, or your own sung tune. Free to try; downloading a song now needs the Pro plan.

On this page

Suno (suno.com) writes and produces a full song from your lyrics and a style description, or from a tune you sing into your phone. Shluchim use it for Purim songs with the town's name in them, an upsheren song, a kids' rap for Hebrew school, a gentle niggun under a video, and voicemail greetings.

What it costs

Checked on the pricing page on October 21, 2026.

PlanPriceWhat you get
Free$050 credits a day, the free v6-mini model, upload up to 8 minutes of audio. No song downloads and no commercial rights.

The change that matters: the old advice in the group was "free tier now" (November 2025) and "about $8 for production" (February 2026). Today the free plan lets you make and play songs but not download them. If you need the file for a Purim seudah or a video, plan on a month of Pro.

Suno's current models are v6 and v6-wild (paid) and v6-mini (free), released in September 2026.

How members use it

  1. Lyrics first. Ask ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini for lyrics with local details: the town, the year's theme, the names of the people being honored. For a Jewish melody, ask it to write new words to an existing tune.
  2. Make the song. Paste the lyrics into Suno with a style ("upbeat klezmer, male choir, 120 bpm"). Generate several versions and keep the best.
  3. Keep your own tune. Record yourself singing the niggun, upload it, and use Suno's cover or remix tools so the new song keeps your melody. A shliach said the result "rivals Tzama" and worked even for an obscure niggun (November 2025). In May 2026 a member added: upload a voice note of you singing the tune with the new words, so Suno fits the lyrics to it.
  4. Fix the Hebrew. Suno reads Hebrew words in English text the Israeli way or garbles them. Spell them as they should sound (Khabad, samayakh, Shabbos) or type them in Hebrew letters; one member also tried nekudos. A member made a full Hebrew song in June 2026.

What it is good and bad at

From members' reports in 2026:

  • Good: upsheren songs, soft background niggunim, voicemail greetings ("brilliant," August 2026), Purim parody songs, a kids' rap (April 2026).
  • Weak for narration. Use ElevenLabs for spoken audio.
  • Hard to keep a recorded voice over a simple music bed. Suno tends to write a new song around it instead (August 2026).
  • A refused posuk. In August 2026 Suno refused a pasuk as "copyrighted lyrics." The admin's guess was that a copyrighted song uses the same words. Rephrase, or set a few words at a time.
  • Consistency across a set of songs is hit or miss; keep the style text identical between songs.

The Sefirah question

In April 2026 the group admin noted that Suno can turn any song into an a cappella version, and members asked whether such a track counts as music during Sefiras HaOmer. One member had heard of an opinion that is strict even on recorded a cappella; another argued that a computer is a כלי נגינה "if it sounds like one." Others said there are many opinions. The thread ended without a conclusion.

In November 2025 a member asked whether AI music has a problem because it was trained on non-Jewish music. The replies were jokes, not answers.

The group has not discussed the Three Weeks or the Nine Days. Whether an AI-made or a cappella track is permitted during Sefirah or the Three Weeks is a halachic question: ask your rav.

  • Moises: separates vocals, drums and other parts from a song; members use it to strip vocals (February 2026).
  • An a cappella converter that a member called "really good" (April 2026). Its free limits are not published.
  • ElevenLabs: spoken narration and voice cloning. It also has a music generator the group has not reviewed.
  • Audio to sheet music: a ChatGPT-suggested route is BasicPitch (audio to MIDI) and then MuseScore (MIDI to printable sheet music). Nobody in the group reported testing it.
