What the community has documented as ways to lower AI costs. Offers change, so verify before relying on any of them.

Important: every offer here has an expiry date, vendor discretion, or waitlist status. This list was current as of July 2026. Treat all entries as leads to check, not guarantees; pricing and availability change frequently.

See Paid vs Free for the broader debate.

The eligibility gate: get the 501(c)(3) paperwork first

Every validator behind these programs (TechSoup, Goodstack, Percent) requires proof of IRS-recognized 501(c)(3) status: either your own IRS determination letter, or a parent organization's group-exemption letter (signed, on the parent's letterhead) plus the parent's EIN. Self-declared church exemption fails validation everywhere, with no exceptions. If your Chabad House does not have its own determination letter, getting the group-exemption letter from the parent organization is the single document that unlocks nearly everything below.

Official nonprofit programs (verified July 2026)

Vendor-run programs, each checked against the vendor's own live pages in July 2026.

OpenAI: up to 75% off ChatGPT Business or Enterprise

help.openai.com/en/articles/9359041-openai-for-nonprofits. OpenAI's own page carries a dated banner: "Update on Feb 6, 2026: Nonprofits can now access up to a 75% discount on ChatGPT Business or ChatGPT Enterprise. Contact our sales team." The discount is arranged through sales rather than a checkout page, and the group's July data point worked out to about $8 per user per month billed annually (verified at the source, 2026-08-30). No nonprofit discount on the API. Registered 501(c)(3)s qualify, and the current pages list no religious exclusion. OpenAI excluded religious organizations from this program until mid-2025, when the exclusion was removed after a lawsuit settlement, so a Chabad House rejected under the old policy should re-apply. Apply via the short form linked from the help-center article, using the email on your ChatGPT Business account; validation is by Goodstack, and existing subscribers get a prorated discount. Five-person math: 5 x $8 = $40/month billed annually (versus roughly $125 to $150 at list).

Anthropic (Claude): up to 75% off, 2-seat minimum

claude.com/solutions/nonprofits. Up to 75% off Team and Enterprise plans; the nonprofits page lists Team at $8 per user per month with a minimum of 2 seats (not 5, as previously listed here). Open to registered 501(c)(3)s and international equivalents, plus K-12 schools; no religious carve-out anywhere on the published pages (the stated exclusions are government agencies, political campaigns, higher education, and healthcare systems). Team verification runs through Goodstack in a few minutes; Enterprise goes through Anthropic's nonprofit sales team. Also includes a free AI Fluency for Nonprofits course via Anthropic Academy. Five-person math: 5 x $8 = $40/month.

Google for Nonprofits: free Workspace with Gemini

google.com/nonprofits. Google Workspace for Nonprofits at $0 per user for up to 2,000 users, with discounted upgrades (Business Standard $3.50 per user per month, Business Plus $6.16, Enterprise 70%+ off). Gemini is marketed as included in Workspace, but exactly which Gemini features land in the free tier is not spelled out on Google's pages (unverified, check before relying). Community caveat: adding Gemini has sometimes downgraded the shared-drive tier, so talk to your admin first. The same application also unlocks Google's non-AI nonprofit products (Ad Grants and others), which are out of this page's scope.

Churches and religious organizations qualify, including under a parent group exemption (Google's dedicated policy article): the branch applies with its own EIN plus the group-exemption documentation. Excluded: governmental entities, hospitals/healthcare, and schools. Apply at the Google for Nonprofits site; Goodstack verification takes 2 to 14 working days, then activate each product individually. Five-person math: $0 on the free tier, or $17.50/month for Business Standard across the team.

Microsoft: free Copilot Chat plus $2,000/year in Azure credits

microsoft.com/en-us/nonprofits/offers-for-nonprofits. The AI pieces: Copilot Chat is included in Microsoft 365 Business Basic, which is free for up to 300 users; the full Microsoft 365 Copilot runs $25.50 per user per month; and the grant includes $2,000 per year in Azure services credits, which is the route to Azure-hosted models. (The old grant of 10 free Business Premium seats was retired July 1, 2025; Business Premium is now $5.50 per user per month.) Religious organizations are not on the exclusion list (which covers government, schools, utilities, financial institutions, trade associations, professional sports, and political/labor/fraternal organizations); formal IRS recognition is required as everywhere. Register directly at Microsoft's nonprofit portal, not via TechSoup; validation takes up to 7 business days. Five-person math: $0 for Copilot Chat across the team on free Business Basic, plus maybe one paid Copilot seat.

Canva: Pro free for a team of up to 50

canva.com/canva-for-nonprofits. All Canva Pro premium features (including Canva's AI design tools, the reason it earns a place on this page) plus team collaboration, free for one team of up to 50 users; seats beyond that get 50% off Canva Enterprise. Registered charitable nonprofits (501(c)(3) in the US) qualify, and religious organizations are not on the current ineligible list; the old rule requiring a distinct secular community mission is gone from the eligibility guidelines, though Canva reviews every request at its own discretion. Apply on the Canva Nonprofits page with proof of registration plus governing documents; verification by Goodstack. Five-person math: $0 (roughly $500/year at Canva Teams list pricing).

Adobe Express: Premium free

adobe.com/nonprofits/express.html. Adobe Express Premium free for qualified 501(c)(3)s, applied for directly with Adobe (the old TechSoup route was discontinued September 2025, and TechSoup validation does not carry over). Includes Firefly generative AI with 250 generative credits per month, the Adobe Stock standard collection, and 25,000+ fonts. A 50-users-per-organization cap is reported by TechSoup but not stated on Adobe's own page (unverified, check before relying).

ElevenLabs: free via the Impact Program

elevenlabs.io/impact. Free access to ElevenLabs for nonprofit organizations, validated through Goodstack. The vendor page now states it plainly: 12 months of free Pro access, applied for through Goodstack (verified at the source, 2026-08-30).

TechSoup: the validation gateway

techsoup.org/joining-techsoup. Free to join; members get donations and discounts from 60+ partner companies (Microsoft, Adobe, Cisco, Intuit, and others), with a small admin fee per product order. Houses of worship are eligible, but only with IRS-recognized 501(c)(3) status held independently or under a parent group exemption; TechSoup's places-of-worship policy is explicit that self-declared or automatic church exemption does not qualify, with no exceptions. Register, upload the determination letter or group-exemption documentation, and validation takes about two business days.

Perplexity: Enterprise Pro nonprofit pricing

Enterprise Pro at $30 per seat per month ($300 annually) for not-for-profits, per Perplexity's June 2024 announcement, which remains live but has no newer refresh (unverified pricing, confirm with Perplexity sales). For a small Chabad House this is worse value than the OpenAI and Anthropic offers above; regular Pro at $20/month may make more sense.

Expired

  • Perplexity Pro free year via PayPal. It ended on December 31, 2025.
  • OpenAI for Nonprofits at 20% off via Goodstack. That program (which excluded religious organizations) is gone; the current offer is ChatGPT Business at $8/user/month, listed above.
  • Microsoft's 10 free Business Premium seats. Retired July 1, 2025; the current baseline is free Business Basic plus Business Premium at $5.50.
  • Adobe Express via TechSoup. Ended September 2025; apply directly with Adobe, as above.

Tools designed to compound savings

  • OpenAI Codex for OSS plus Claude for Nonprofits stack across model providers.
  • Poe AI bundles Claude, GPT, and Gemini under one subscription if you want a single bill. It is API-based and lacks some native-app features.
  • LMArena.ai offers side-by-side LLM comparisons, free.

Caveats

  • Free tiers may train on your data unless you opt out. The chat carried several warnings on this.
  • Workspace admins can see Gemini chats on managed accounts, and users cannot easily delete them.
