Nano Banana

Google's image-generation model (inside Gemini and Google AI Studio); the group's default for flyer backgrounds and, as of mid-2026, a reliable image model for short Hebrew text alongside GPT Image 2.

On this page

Nano Banana is Google's image-generation model, living inside Gemini and Google AI Studio. From the moment it landed in late 2025, the group treated it as the default for flyer backgrounds and visual work.

What it is

Google's image model, codenamed Nano Banana, available through aistudio.google.com (free with API credit), the Gemini app, and Workspace integrations.

Variants:

  • Nano Banana, the initial release, around August 2025.
  • Nano Banana 2, released 2025-11-20.
  • Nano Banana Pro, released 2025-11-20: text-only editing, 4x upscale on download, watermark removal, and higher resolution.

What shluchim use it for

  • Flyer backgrounds. "You cannot compare its images. Accuracy, text and real-world understanding are unmatched."
  • Hebrew text in images. Historically better than ChatGPT on the first attempt; as of mid-2026 both Nano Banana Pro and GPT Image 2 render short Hebrew (titles, dates, names) reliably. See Hebrew & Yiddish.
  • Logo design, substantially better than ChatGPT.
  • Multi-image generation in parallel via the OpenArt.ai wrapper.
  • Brand-consistent flyer sets, using reference images and detailed prompts.

Strengths

  • Best resolution and visual fidelity of the major image models for most of late 2025, until GPT Image 2 caught up.
  • Reliable short-Hebrew text rendering as of mid-2026, alongside GPT Image 2 (accuracy still slips on long passages; see Hebrew & Yiddish).
  • Free via Google AI Studio at reasonable rate limits.

Weaknesses

  • Quality loss on edits. "When you tell it to make changes, it does so perfectly, but loses image quality." Workaround: remove the background before editing, then add it back.
  • Watermark on non-Pro outputs.
  • Recurring "I'm just a language model" errors on some Nano Banana flows.
  • Chabad iconography failures. See AI Flyer Aesthetics for the menorah, Luchos, and kippah problems.
  • A reported bug: "Can't change matzahs."

Now superseded for some uses

"Since GPT 5.2 came out it's really strong. The new GPT image model is better than Gemini's Nano Banana Pro in my experience."

Best practice: try both for the same prompt and pick. Use Nano Banana for the visual base and GPT Image 2 for refinement, or vice versa.

The "use ChatGPT to write the prompt" workflow

  1. Tell ChatGPT what you want to create.
  2. Ask ChatGPT to write a detailed image-generator prompt including style, layout, and brand colors.
  3. Paste that prompt into Google AI Studio (Nano Banana).
  4. The result is far better than ChatGPT's own image generation.
